The Communal Sharing of Enchantment

When I think about the communal sharing of Enchantment, I go back to an earlier longing, which was to know people around the world. As a child, I yearned to have pen pals everywhere. People are so fascinating and different and yet in so many ways we share parallel experiences. I always wished to know how people live around the world. I fantasize, even to this day, living each month in a different locale and being part of a new world.

Once, we rented an apartment in London for a month, when our daughter was four. This came close to fulfilling my longings. I shopped for daily foods in new places, we sat in a different garden at night, and we used new babysitters. I took long pleasant baths in an old, yet comfortable tub and further lost myself in adventure by reading an Agatha Cristy mystery novel as I relaxed. And during the day we went to all the museums we could find, constantly eating ice cream cones for replenishment. I truly felt refreshed when we returned to New Jersey.

Since that time, my longing for knowing and sharing with people around the world has been partly satisfied in a way I never could have dreamed of, even when we took that trip to London. When my first book came out, published by an academic press, I did not realize until it happened that I would be sharing my book around the world. Their mailing list was extensive and as the book circulars circulated as well as the book itself, I found myself in a new type of travel. This was a kind of 'mind' travel. THE ENCHANTED SELF - A Positive Therapy, was my new messenger!

I kept having the delight of sharing positive energy with people who were writing to me from around the world. I found a letter could cheer me, inspire me, and convince me that it was and is worth struggling to strive for what is positive in life.

For example, I recently reread a letter from Cindy Dior, an art therapist from Tempe, Arizona. She said in her letter, "I am in love with the idea of doing

what feels good, tapping into the potential that serves to spark our creativity and positive experiences. Rather than starting the healing process with people at the place of their victimization -- the depressing, grieving aspects of their lives, I want to start from the perspective of what is joyous in their lives; what is beautiful and meaningful to them, what is really working for them. I want to encourage people to dwell on the positive experiences of their lives so that they can maintain a more positive state of being every day. I am convinced that by practicing a reframing of thoughts and ideas, people can change and grow and become all that they can be."

I had never met Cindy. Obviously, her ideas meshed with mine. I was startled by the uplifting power and sense of joy I felt knowing that someone out west had read my work, and not only connected with it, but bothered to share with me how her work also emphasized similar elements.

Yes, I have come to believe that there is a synergy around the world in various places, a magical network of people -- people of all backgrounds who wish and are working for a more wholesome, optimistic world where we can stay committed to a communal sharing of positive energies.

In another short article I wish to continue and tell you about more people I have met in this exciting 'mind' travel I am now doing and also how another unexpected modern miracle has taken me on even more unexpected modern day 'pen pal' adventures!
